A lovely detailed silver ring set with labradorite was brought into the workshop for adaptation from a ring into a pendant.

Using my piercing saw I removed the shank from the head of the ring
Then I cut a small section from the shank again using my jewellers saw.
The small section was then turned into a bale (loop to allow a chain to pass through) using heat to soften the metal and pliers to form the loop. The bale was then soldered and filed to shape before a connecting look cut and laserwelded into position.
The reverse of the finished pendant
The finished pendant oxidised and lightly polished with bale
The completed pendant
Transformed from ring to pendant.
An interesting silver ring sent in for modification.
Reverse of the ring showing remnants of a paint that had been applied to the stone to make the stone appear dark.
The stone has been carefully removed and the stone and ring cleaned of the peeling paint.
A backplate has been pierced from silver (seen here with its blue protective cover to the right of the ring) this will be shaped to the contour of the stone and soldered in place.
Here is the finished ring; polished, its black patina applied using an oxidising solution before the stone was returned to its mount and set.
